Spring Sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River is hard to put into words but I will try. The Rainy River is the premier Lake Sturgeon fishery on planet earth, both for size and numbers. The fish are full of eggs this time of year and are as fat as they will be all year, a good example of this is the absolute blimp pictured below. I run guide trips from April 15th-May 15th. The whole month is good however the first two weeks of May can be unbelievable as they start pushing into their spawning grounds. It is fairly common to catch 10-15 sturgeon a day this time of year with the potential of catching some crazy numbers as you get closer to the beginning of May. This past spring on May 7th I had a group with me that caught 48 sturgeon in 8 hours, I dont know anywhere else on earth that you have the chance of a day like that. This fishery holds a special spot in my heart and brings me so much joy to share my knowledge of it with people who might not know the true potential that the mighty rainy river holds each spring.
